According to its Statute, the PPT is ready to consider its competence for requests presented by representatives of communities, minorities, peoples, civil societies who have been and/or are the target of systematic severe violations of their human and peoples’ rights, either by governments and/or institutional and/or private actors (e.g. trans-national corporations), which cannot find an independent forum for a reliable judgment.
Following the verification of the representativeness and of the independence of the requesting organizations, the acceptance of the indictment by the Presidency of the PPT, a preparatory phase is activated, in close collaboration between the promoters and the General Secretariat of the PPT, tailored to the specific characteristics of the case.
The definition and nomination of the panel of judges is the exclusive responsibility of the Presidency and the General Secretariat of the PPT.
